Artist Statement
Abstract art can contain meaning or it can simply bring pleasure due to the confluence of colour and line. I never try to impose meaning into my works and hope that neither does the viewer. My works are forged through my emotions and my reactions to my exploration of the medium.
I paint intuitively. it begins with a desire to explore a certain colour combination or textural mark. From there I’m challenged to find complementary colours, marks or lines that will expand the work to encompass or embrace what I feel. I put multiple layers on the canvas often creating interesting, slightly hidden snippets of joy, and always arriving at a finished piece that reflects where I am in that moment.
For me painting is a singular act of love where I attempt to put my emotions on the canvas. Sometimes the revelations of my feelings come easily, at other times with difficulty. But the beauty of the experience is that it always comes and is always satisfying
